Dyeing with Natural Dyes
Thanks to my textile geek club, I have begun to use a lot of natural dyes on the wool for my punch needle artwork.
I buy my dyes from Botanical Colors. I admit that I am not super scientific about it. I spend a lot of my days planning with my business, so with dyeing I like to be more experimental.
This group of dyeing involved using Marigold (from my garden), Madder, Walnut, Logwood, and Himalayan Yellow.
I like to have two pots going at a time. Since I never fully exhaust the dyes in the individual baths, when I am done with my initial dyeing, I combine the two baths to create a third color.
I am not interested in repeating any colors exactly because I like the variety and quite frankly for me it is more about the process and the element of surprise than the planning.
In this case, I did make some notes as to which dyes I used. I also determined that Logwood and Madder are very dominant dyes, so if I were ever to use them again, I will use them sparingly.
